Care we provide

Psychiatry for real life, not just a diagnosis code.

Our clinicians treat the concerns adults most often bring to psychiatry — and coordinate the rest of your care rather than leaving you to assemble it yourself.

Medication management

Careful psychiatric prescribing: a real evaluation first, a clear explanation of what a medication can and can't do, and follow-up visits that check whether it's actually working.

Therapy referrals & coordination

Many people do best with therapy alongside medication. We help you find a therapist who fits and stay in contact with them, so your care is coordinated instead of fragmented.

ADHD evaluation & treatment

A structured assessment — history, symptoms, and what else could explain them — before any treatment decision. If ADHD is the answer, we build a plan around how you actually live.

Anxiety & depression

The two reasons people reach out most. We take time to understand what's driving it — and treat it with the same seriousness we'd give any other medical condition.

Telepsychiatry

Secure video visits from home, work, or anywhere in Tennessee — the same clinician, the same care, without the drive or the waiting room.

Not sure where you fit?

Start the form anyway. If we're not the right practice for what you need, we'll tell you plainly and point you somewhere better — that's a real outcome, not a brush-off.

Insurance & payment

Care that works with your coverage.

Tell us your plan in the intake form and we'll verify your benefits before your first visit — so the cost conversation happens up front, not on a surprise statement.

Plans we work with

Aetna Blue Cross Blue Shield Cigna UnitedHealthcare / Optum Medicare TennCare TRICARE

Coverage varies by plan and by service, so network participation and benefits are confirmed before your first appointment. Self-pay is also available — ask us for current rates. Don't see your plan? Start the form and we'll check.

About the practice

Novus means new.

We named the practice after the hardest part of psychiatric care: starting.

Most people who need psychiatry don't stall because they can't be helped. They stall because the first step is a phone tree, a waitlist, a form mailed to an address, and three weeks of silence. We built Novus so that the first step is a few questions you can answer tonight.

Our clinicians practice psychiatry the unglamorous way: listen carefully, name what's actually going on, use medication when it helps and say so when it won't, and keep checking whether the plan is working. You'll always know what we're doing and why.

We care for adults throughout Tennessee, primarily by secure video, so where you live doesn't decide the quality of care you get.

  • Unhurried appointments Enough time to hear the whole story — the medication conversation goes better when it isn't the only conversation.
  • Plain language You should leave every visit knowing the plan, the reasoning behind it, and what we'll do if it doesn't work.
  • Evidence over fashion Treatment decisions grounded in what the research actually supports for your situation, not whatever's trending.
  • An honest front door If your needs are better served by a higher level of care, we say so early rather than letting you lose months finding out.

Common questions

The things people ask before they start.

What happens after I fill out the form?

Your answers go to our care team. If everything looks straightforward, you'll be able to choose an appointment time right there on the same screen.

If anything in your answers deserves a closer look — a complicated history, a medication question, or a need we may not be the right fit for — a member of our team reviews it personally and contacts you to sort out the next step.

Do you see patients by video or in person?

Novus is built around telehealth: secure video visits with patients located anywhere in Tennessee. You'll need a private spot, a phone or computer with a camera, and to be physically in Tennessee at the time of your visit.

In-person availability: to be confirmed.

Do you take my insurance?

We work with most major plans, including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare / Optum, Medicare, TennCare, and TRICARE. Because coverage varies by plan and by service, we verify your specific benefits before your first visit.

Self-pay is available if you'd rather not use insurance — just ask for current rates.

Can you prescribe medication?

Yes — medication management is a core part of the practice. Whether medication is the right tool for you is a conversation, though, not a foregone conclusion. Some people leave a first visit with a prescription; some leave with a referral, a plan for labs, or a recommendation for therapy first.

What about controlled medications, like stimulants or benzodiazepines?

We prescribe controlled medications only when they're clinically appropriate, and only after a complete evaluation — which usually includes reviewing your history and records from previous treatment. No practice can promise a specific medication before meeting you, and we won't pretend otherwise.

If you're currently on one of these medications, tell us in the intake form so we can plan for continuity rather than discovering it mid-visit.

What if I need help right now?

This website and the intake form are not monitored for emergencies. If you are in crisis or thinking about hurting yourself, call or text 988 (the Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), call 911, or go to your nearest emergency room. Those services are available around the clock, and reaching out to them does not affect your ability to start care with us.
